Hi again,
回覆刪除You probably saw me in ptt's Cubs or NPB bbs. I 'm switching to English right now, cuz my last longer post in trad. Chinese was gone-with-the-page-transfer and it got into my nerves.
So, I think it's a good idea to start a Reds forum. The Midwest, the lovely Ohio, Cincy, Illinois, Mizzo, and others are the one but divided Heart of America with so much tradition and "REAL" American spirit. It's a shame that not more Taiwanese know about them.
But before you get started, I would suggest that you look at your career plan right now, because managing an open forum could be quite exhausting yourself. The hacking, the trouting, the hacklers, and all those human affairs you need to check and control the damage.
I frequent the npb.club.tw, a NPB forum managed by one guy who started it in 2001 on his home server, and it's 2008 now, yes, the traffic got bigger, but the "hot" talks won' t exceed some 40 discussion posts on a monthly basis. The fans aren't growing as hoped because there's not enough of a market in Chinese-speaking countries who watch NPB. But many Wang fans or less-educated Chinese Taipei fans went to npb.club.tw and disrepect the real NPB fans there. I would expect a similar difficulty dealing with the Reds as well.
Therefore, I would guess that if you are working now and can spare time everynight to do something about it, then starting a new forum and managing it for years (before it serves yourself or the public well), is a good idea. But if you are a college junior or senior going to enter a transition soon, then you might want to wait on this.
I would prefer to see a Midwest Major Forum, with the Cubs included-- it would be more interesting, serving more fans (and more fun?).
Alright, Happy Year of Rats, and thanks for all the good work!
p.s. I placed the first vote for NL Central on your ballot, how sad!
Thank you for your comments.
回覆刪除Maybe there are some mid-west MLB fans out there, they just don't browse this blog. Don't be sorry about it.
About the numbers of topic fans discussing on the forum, I could care less about it. It is what it is, I am a Reds fan. If I decided to do it, I will try to keep it running no matter what.
About the mid-west Major board, I have not intention to open it unless someone volunteer being a board manager.
I haven't make the final call about this Taiwanese Cincinnati Reds Froum idea. But I know one thing, with all due respect, I won't call this forum "Chinese Taipei Cincinnati Reds Forum".
But still, thank you anyway.
Hi again,
回覆刪除Actually, what I wanted to say is, if you take a look at npb.club.tw, it's initially a good idea. In fact, it's a marvelous.
It brings together fans of different teams and prompt them to share their differences (or similarities), which actually helps the discussion.
Why? Because it's so easy to stay in a box (a PTT board of my favorite team, per se), and become contempt of my ignorance to whatever else is happening in baseball.
What I found is: an open forum with a greater geo-social area, like npb.club.tw speaks about Japan, will benefit fans more. In my case, I could look at more things, the conflicting ideas from fans of another team, and look back to see if the "truth" I saw it is real or simply a self-justification.
That's why I prefer to see a Midwest Professional Baseball Forum. Of course, if the board manager is a Reds fan, then there might be more stuffs about the Reds, and sure it's not a problem.
Again, I might have underestimated the well-being to-be of a Reds forum. Good luck to you.
And World Series 2008 at Wrigley, a Centennial Sensation.
